Character Information
Full Name: Lily Evans
Nicknames: Lils
Canon: Harry Potter
Sex/Gender: Female, woman
Age: DOB: Jan 30, 1960 - she's from just after her 17th Birthday Jan 30
PB: Courtney Halverson
Journal: lepos | [personal profile] lepos
4th Walling: Yes, but discuss it with me first.
Canon Point: She'll be from the middle of her 6th year at Hogwarts
Physical description: A human witch, Lily is most notable for her dark red hair and almond-shaped, emerald-green eyes. She maybe be slightly vain about these two striking, unique features, but she would never hold such nature-given qualities over anyone. She just really likes them and has, as she's gotten older, learned how to highlight them to their best advantage.

When she stays out in the sun too long she burns and then gets loads of freckles, but doesn't tan.

She's slightly taller than average (5'6" or 167.64 cm) and on the slimmer side. She holds herself with confidence.

She likes both practical clothes (jeans and a t-shirt) and the more frilly-girly outfits (dresses and skirts) as well. What outfit she goes with greatly depends on her mood.

Canon Information
History: Lily Evans was born in Cokeworth, England to muggles (non-magical) parents Mr. and Mrs. Evans on January 30, 1960. Her older sister is Petunia, with whom she was close until Lily became friends with Severus Snape, and subsequently embraced her magical abilities.

Her childhood was relatively uneventful – before she learned of Hogwarts and magic and all that. She attended school with her sister and learned the basics just like every other girl her age. The Evans weren’t rich, but they lived a comfortable life, and lived on the right side of town – a fact made clear when Petunia pointed out that Severus lived on the wrong side of town.

When Lily was nine she meet Severus Snape. She and her sister had been out playing at the local playground where Lily was showing Petunia, much to Petunia’s jealousy and disapproval, her magical abilities. After several displays of Lily’s abilities, Severus, who had been watching nearby, made himself known; stating that Lily was a Witch, and that she could do magic, like he could. Lily, and Petunia, took offense to his statements – which was the exact opposite of what Severus had intended – and they left him to go home. However, Lily soon gave Severus a second chance, due to a mixture of her kindness and her curiosity about her abilities getting the better of her. Thereafter, Lily and Severus were close, almost inseparable friends, much to the growing displeasure of Petunia.

On the train ride to Hogwarts, a much anticipated event for her and Severus, Lily was introduced to Intra-Hogwarts-House Disunity. Her best friend had explained the houses to her; Gryffindor was for the brave, Ravenclaw for the bookish, Slytherin for the cunning, and Hufflepuff for everyone else. Severus readily preferred Slytherin House, and may have spoken disparagingly about Gryffindors. While talking with her friend about the greatness of Slytherin House, two ‘toe-rags’ – as Lily would later coin the phrase – interjected their opinions about the Houses, including their mean opinions about her best friend. This was not a good start for Lily Evans and James Potter and it would dictate their relationship for the majority of their school years. Lily could not stand bullies and took charge of the situation, leaving the train car to find another wherein she and Severus could revel in delight over Hogwarts and all its wonders in peace.

Lily had been apprehensive about being Sorted – the way everyone talked about it in hushed voices made it sound ominous and difficult, especially as she was a muggleborn and her only magical knowledge was learned secondhand from Severus. She was much relieved to see, from the few students that went before her, that all she was required to do was sit on a stool and put on a grimy, old hat. Her relief turned to a brief moment of disbelief when she was sorted into Gryffindor and her best friend was sorted into Slytherin. Sure Gryffindor house was full of the bravest, but Severus’s opinion of the House being full of dunderheads seemed to be proving true when both James Potter and Sirius Black were sorted into the same House as her. Plus she and her friend were not in the same house as they had hoped. But, Lily clung to that ‘brave’ pronouncement and decided she would make the best of it – bravery was a good thing – and she would just ignore the Toe-rag Bullies. And besides, she was sure this did not mean that she couldn’t have friends outside her House.

Hogwarts for Lily proved to be, for the most part, exactly what Severus had told her. She excelled at magic, finding potions and charms to be her best subjects. She made friends easily (though she stayed far away from James, Sirius and two other kids name Remus and Peter they had picked up along the way. Though Remus won her over eventually when he proved he was much less a toe-rag than his three friends). She easily caught the eye of Professor Slughorn and became one of his collected and a member of the Slugclub.

At the start of her fifth year at Hogwarts she was made prefect, along with Remus Lupin. At first, she was unsure of working with Remus. He turned a blind eye to James' and Sirius' crueler activities, and Lily couldn't forgive that. But, she did come to see Remus' better qualities. When away from James and Sirius (and therefore, his unwillingness to rein in his friends was not so apparent) Lily realized he could be quite fun to hang out with and study with. And he also helped others. This won Lily over and they were soon fast friends.

In the early years at Hogwarts, Severus remained the best friend she could have, despite all the Intra-House Disunity going on (Lily would have none of that, thank you very much). However, as the years wore on, it became increasingly difficult for Lily to maintain a friendship with him. It all came to a head during their fifth year. It was a confusing year for Lily. She loved her best friend, as a friend. And she was just starting to figure out what that meant, if maybe there was something more, but it was difficult to decide. When they were home, during the summers and away from the influence of the shadier characters in Slytherin House, things were great. But when school started again Severus seemed to be drawn to them in a disturbing way – they were aspiring Death Eaters, and they seemed to have an unhealthy obsession for all things dark and cruel, something they brought out in her best friend. Severus had always been fascinated by the Dark Arts, and previously he kept his interest to merely reading about the stuff, but these new ‘friends’ seemed to encourage the cruel use of such magic as everyday activities. Lily disapproved of all types of bullying and cruelty, and could not support her friend going in that direction. She tried to explain to her friend how much she despised such things, to help him see how they were wrong – but, they were both just sixteen years old, and dealing with concepts beyond their years.

This incessant stance against her best friend’s friends became a fault for Lily, she started focusing more on their faults while ignoring some of the more cruel acts of her own Housemates. She despised what Mulciber and Avery did for pranks, but turned a blind eye to the truth of what Sirius Black, James Potter, and Peter Pettigrew had plotted against her best friend. She had a hard time thinking Sirius and James could be as mean as to try and kill Severus. Gryffindors weren’t Slytherins after all. Additionally, James had stepped in to keep Severus from being harmed by Werewolf Remus just before it was too late, which showed a higher quality of character in Lily’s Housemates than those in Slytherin. In her understanding, Sirius and James, while bullies, never dabbled in the Dark Arts, therefore they were at least a notch above those Wannabe Death Eaters. Never really experiencing the cruelty of James and Sirius first hand, Lily had a hard time seeing why Severus thought differently.

Lily’s decision about her feelings was decided when Severus called her a ‘Mudblood’. Just after O.W.Ls at the end of their fifth year, while James and Sirius were once again tormenting Severus, her friend called her that awful slur when she tried to intervene on his behalf. She couldn’t make excuses any more. James and Sirius were mean and, yes, they had been bullying Severus, but she had been there for him and Severus had struck out at her, calling her that. She took that to mean he was finally showing his true feelings about her, and though he apologized, she would not be friends with someone who thought of her, and those of her birth status, that way. It was the single most difficult thing Lily had ever done. She loved Severus, as a friend and maybe there was something more, but she wouldn’t lower herself to endure insults and harm from her friends – she was not a ‘Mudblood’ and she was not about to be in such a degrading relationship.

There were many times when Lily wanted to tell Severus she had forgiven him – in truth she had actually forgiven him for the incident by the lake shortly after the event – but he seemed to have moved on from their friendship rather quickly, delving more into the bad crowd from his House. Severus did not seem to care about her anymore, and so, as a matter of pride Lily moved on. He had chosen his path, and so she had to choose hers – though part of her could never fully forget about her friend.

Lily was a social butterfly, and was not shy when it came to dating. She had a number of relationships in her latter years at Hogwarts. She and Remus even tried one date with awkward results, though, their friendship survived. All through school Lily remained willfully ignorant of Severus’ feelings for her, for good reason. He had made his choice, and thinking about ‘what ifs’ didn’t do any good.

Lily despised James all the way through sixth year. She was aware how James felt for her, however, she wouldn’t give the time of day to someone who'd been so mean to her former best friend, and to others around the school. The fact that he thought his bombastic, cruel behavior might somehow impress her only annoyed her more. She had other things to worry about, like classes, and exams, and all those chilling rumors about what the Death Eaters and Lord Voldemort were up to outside the safe walls of Hogwarts. And those rumors about a group of witches and wizards standing up to the Death Eaters.

Lily absolutely knew what side she was on, she was a muggleborn, she would be personally affected by any regime Voldemort put in place. And even if she wasn’t a muggleborn, she wouldn’t sit idly by while people were harmed. But doing something to help was a ways off, even though she was technically of the age of majority, by wizard standards, she still had a year and a half left of schooling. So focus on homework and lessons she did.

She’d just finished a Potion exam and was returning to her dorm to drop off her things before the world spun and changed around her, and she found herself naked and disoriented in the floor of a room she'd never seen before.

Personality: Lily was appropriately sorted into Gryffindor. She is brave to her core and is rarely afraid to do anything, whatever the situation calls for, be it learning about her magical abilities, making new friends, standing up to bullies or even standing up to her own friends. Courage is a part of her just as surely as her hair is red and her wand is made from willow. This isn’t to say she doesn’t feel fear in the face of danger or a daunting task, Lily just has the great capacity to push through her fears when necessary. Boggarts don’t stand a chance against her.

Boldness is one of the first things a person notices about her – something highlighted by her very dark, red hair. Ginger is a slur she heard when she was younger (slurs are something she’s been forced to deal with her whole life, their sting never changed, just the precise words used did) but she learned quickly she didn’t like shrinking from insults lobed at her. She loved her hair color, and she couldn’t see why others would find it a feature worth ridiculing. From a young age she determined to not let the rotten opinions of others hold her back.

But Lily also realized something quickly, not everyone had the same reaction to insults that she did – and that was okay. She understood not everyone could shove off or ignore negative comments like she could. (It should be noted that it’s not that she’s not hurt by insults – she is very much hurt by them – but for her, her hurt feelings propel her into action, rather than submission.) And most importantly, she recognized the way other people shrank from insults did not make them inferior people, it was just how they were. And Lily, being able to react differently, where others could not, she could be the one to boldly stand against those insults.

Lily is also an exceptionally kind person. Of course, family comes first for her. She cares about them deeply, even her sister Petunia. Then her friends come next, but Lily casts a wide net for friends. She prefers to have a lot of friends – despite having been friends with Severus (who prefers to have only a few friends). She does a lot for people in these circles – she’ll forgive a lot of their flaws even.

But she does have a breaking point.

When people cross beyond what she can forgive she will look to preserving her own wellbeing rather than giving them another chance. Sometimes, people can say and do things so egregious that it is healthier for her to end the relationship. She did that with Petunia (though it was more a mutual break) and with Severus. She still cares about both very much, she thinks about them still and how she used to be friends with each of them. But she knows she can’t be the one to take their abuse continually when they show interest in changing their abusive behavior. She wishes things could be different, but she doesn’t live on wishes, no one can.

She cannot abide bullies. When she sees someone harassing another human or animal it makes her furious. She did not in any way, shape, or form find James desirable until he stopped picking on people (though, had she known he was just not doing it where she could see their relationship would have gone a very different way…) She found James’ and Sirius’ maltreatment of their classmates (not just Severus, though for many years that was her major ire with them) immature and cruel. James may have prided himself on never using Dark Magic, but the cruel way he used other magic did not impress her. Lily will stand against bullying whenever she sees it.

Lily has a bit of a temper. Gryffindors are known for acting without thinking – and this is where that shines through for Lily. When her anger flares up, she can act brashly saying or doing things she might hold back were she not emotionally incensed. When she’s angry, everyone knows it. Even her hair is red-er. Though, it can be unpredictable how she’ll react. Sometimes she feels like yelling at the person who has stirred her spite. Sometimes she’ll narrow her eyes and coolly walk away. It’s situational dependent, she has different levels of anger. There are surface annoyances that get to her and for those she gives just a derisive snort and an eye roll – if they persist she’ll take further action. Then there’s the anger she reserved for toe-rags, such as James and Sirius – they are greater than a common annoyance but not someone she particularly cares about (well, at first), she can put on a right display of fireworks for something such as this who pisses her off, but it’s more show than damaging. And finally there’s the destructive anger reserved for when she is hurt, or someone she cares so deeply about is hurt, when this happens she tends to do unwise or rash things.

What she won’t do, however, is act out violently physically against someone when she’s mad. Well, there is the exception of when she’s dueling a Death Eater and they hit her with a terrible curse, she would feel no shame striking back at them out of anger. Self defense is self defense and all bets are off then. However, she would never hit someone or throw things at them if say a conversation turned into a confrontation. Verbal arguments where the other party doesn’t escalate the situation, Lily would never be the one to make things physical.

She is frightfully stubborn. She likes to say she's fiercely determined. It has a better ring to it. She has to be in order to survive so brilliantly at Hogwarts during a time of so much bigotry. When she sets her mind to something, she commits herself whole heartedly, but this can be quite a detriment, especially when combined with brash thinking above. Add in her courage and this can be a dangerous mix. She doesn’t take dares lightly, in fact, she’s dead serious about them. She may have earned a scrap or two from trying something less than safe, all because of a dare. Much of her determination stems from the need to prove herself. As the youngest in her family she had a lot to live up to with her sister, who just naturally understood the rules and could please their parents readily. And then later when she learned she had magical abilities, but came from a non-magical home, she felt she needed to work extra diligently to make up the slack.

Generally, Lily is charming and energetic. She cares deeply for those she is close to and would do anything for them, even sacrifice her life. Because she feels this way for them, she expects the same in return.

Strengths Excellent with Charms and Potions, and is learning a good bit about dueling. She can be very determined and when she decides she’s going to do anything it takes something on the scale of a force of nature to change her mind, and even then, she might just only put the desire on hold; she’s fiercely loyal to her friends and the causes she takes part in. When her temper isn’t up she can be exceptionally kind.

Weaknesses She’s a redhead, so she’s totally hot headed, when she gets angry she is never wise. Flying was never a talent she was good at; she’s rather dismal of divination and arithmancy. Sometimes she’s doesn’t tackle goals in moderation. Inequality makes her see red. And she is human, she has no special strength or fortitude beyond the average human. She'll bruise and injure just the same as an average human.

Tertiary Type and Color(s)/Color Patterns: Afe - diamond white

Shapes/Configuration: The center of her gara is her Afe gara - it's shaped like the start of a two arm spiral. The Vii (largest) and Owm garas continue the spiraling arms, moving out and away from the center. Each arm of the spiral looks like it is comprised of many glittering stars.

Other Information
Special Abilities: As a muggle-born witch, Lily has been learning how to use her magic abilities. She is particularly talented in charms and potions, thought she is good with herbology, transfiguration, and ancient runes. And though she's not the best at it, she still studies arithmancy to better understand potions. Her magic is innate, but using it constructively must be taught and usually requires the use of a wand (though sometimes the most powerful magic is wandless magic guided by emotions).

First Person:
Remus,

It pains me to use you like this, but only until I remember that you not only agreed to pass that offending note along to me in the first place – you actually did it!

Tell Potter that I would no sooner go with him to Hogsmede than eat the toe lint from Pettigrew’s foot!

And if that dunder-brained toerag thinks that means he has even a snowball’s chance in a dragon’s mouth, reiterate: No! I will not go with him to Hogsmede! Ever! And tell him to stop asking me!

In the future, if you’d prefer not to play owl, don’t agree to Potter’s little games.

~ Lily

P.S. Tell Black and Pettigrew if they even make a move towards me with a similar note, I’ll hex their noses off their faces and reattach them to their arses.

Oh, and yes, of course I will help you with our potions homework this weekend.
